The ribbons surely do lack "qualities", but we are talking about serious "HF" in this case, and who says real HF actually wants "qualities"? I really doubt that any "tweeter" that can do "stuff" can also do what the ribbon does best - in a class...

If the RCA 1443 the same as 1428B but without the field coil then it might be even more interesting than 1428B. As I understand that those prewar driver had phenolic diaphragms that generally shall have tendency to be a bit soft with low order filter...

I have a guy visited me today who have high-voltage version of RCA 1428. I asked him to provide is feedback what in his view difference sonic between his 1428 and my S2 driver. Of course it might be large difference in the way how we use our drivers....

I guess it's possible that someone somewhere could get this driver to sing through part of its range. And I admit that it is infuriating to me that people with the speaker construction technology typically build "well-made", bad-sounding drivers base...
